Due to reasons such as weight gain, pregnancy, aging, and the inability to maintain the ideal weight, stubborn fats can accumulate in some regions of the body. Eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly may not remove these stubborn fats. This is where liposuction, or fat removal, comes into play. Liposuction is one of the most preferred aesthetic procedures for body shaping. It involves removing fats the individual cannot eliminate, revealing the body’s contours anew.

In liposuction procedures, fats are broken down and removed from the body. Liposuction, which can be performed under general or local anesthesia, uses hollow cannulas to break down the fats under the skin and then sucks them out. Many people think that liposuction is a weight loss method and that they can get rid of their weight without changing their lifestyle through this method. However, liposuction is not a weight loss method. It is only used to remove fats that cannot be eliminated through weight loss and to shape the body.

Should a Corset be Worn After Liposuction?

Liposuction involves vacuuming fat from a closed area, regardless of the technique. Although there are some hypotheses about whether to use a corset after liposuction, wearing a corset after liposuction limits swelling in the area and provides comfort to the patient. Nowadays, corsets are made of fragile materials and function without excessive tightening. Wearing a corset is necessary to heal faster after the procedure and to reduce fluid retention in the body. The corset should be worn more during the day, and the patient can remove it at night if desired.

Recovery Process After Liposuction

It is possible to be discharged on the same day or the day after liposuction. Depending on the technique used, patients can return to everyday work within two weeks after liposuction. Swelling and tingling are expected in the area where the procedure was performed. After three weeks, the body takes shape, and the patient begins to get used to their new body shape.
